Setting up your email on a phone or mail application

Viewed 13 times

These steps cover the settings your mail application will ask for. The exact server names for your account are shown in cPanel under Email Accounts, next to the account you are setting up.

What you need

  • Your full email address, for example you@yourdomain.com.au
  • Your email password
  • The incoming and outgoing server names from cPanel

On a phone

  1. Open your mail application and choose to add a new account.
  2. Choose the option for other or manual setup rather than the automatic option for large providers, since your mail is hosted on your own domain.
  3. Choose IMAP so that your mail stays in sync across every device you use.
  4. Enter your full email address as the username, along with your password.
  5. Enter the incoming server details, then the outgoing server details.
  6. Turn on authentication for the outgoing server and use the same username and password.
  7. Save and send a test message to yourself.

On a desktop application

The steps are the same. Choose manual setup, choose IMAP for incoming mail, and use your full email address for both the incoming and outgoing username. Most applications will test the settings before saving.

If it will not connect

  • Check the password by logging in to webmail directly. This tells you whether the problem is the password or the settings.
  • Confirm you are using your full email address as the username, not just the part before the @ symbol.
  • Make sure outgoing authentication is switched on.
  • If your mail worked previously and has stopped, contact us, as it may relate to a settings change on the account.
