Creating an email account on your domain

Viewed 14 times

Your hosting includes email accounts on your own domain, so your address can be something like hello@yourdomain.com.au rather than a free mailbox.

Create the account

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Open Email Accounts.
  3. Choose Create.
  4. Enter the part of the address before the @ symbol, choose the domain from the list, and set a strong password.
  5. Set a mailbox quota, or leave it unlimited.
  6. Save.

Send and receive from a mail application

You can read your mail in cPanel's webmail, or connect an application such as Outlook, Apple Mail or a phone. When you set that up you will be asked for incoming and outgoing server details. Use your full email address as the username and the password you set, and turn on authentication for the outgoing server. Your cPanel will show the exact server names for your account, and it is worth copying them from there rather than relying on a guide, as they can differ between servers.

Forwarders and autoresponders

If you would rather an address simply pass mail on to another mailbox, use a forwarder instead of a full account. If you are away, an autoresponder sends an automatic reply while you are gone. Both live in cPanel under the Email section.

Sending limits

All shared hosting providers limit outgoing mail to prevent abuse, and we are no different. If you need to send to a large list, use a dedicated mailing service rather than your hosting mailbox, as bulk sending from shared hosting will be limited.
